We currently have an opportunity for an Estimator to join our Auckland team!

Our Estimators are the ultimate in driving the fiscal component of our bids and tenders. Their focus is centred on producing the best price (considering material, labour and equipment) that will win the contract in a competitive bidding situation. Our Estimators are an integral part of the Martinus Rail team, responsible for continuing to grow the Martinus Rail brand as the industry’s best in the delivery of rail turnouts and specialised track solutions.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work from bill of quantities, drawings and other relevant documents to develop the overall cost for products or services to be provided to Martinus clients and potential clients
  • Maximise use of resources, supplier relationships and produce the best price for clients while maintaining profitability for the business
  • Timely and accurate presentation of estimates
  • Understand and apply Martinus principles to all estimate processes and outcomes
  • Assist operations manager in the development of HSEQ and project plans knowledge around regulations and standards
  • General administrative duties relating to the estimating process
  • Prepare accurate tenders, quotes, and budgets
  • Analyse and interpret data as required for achieving timely and accurate estimates, including understanding drawings such as engineer’s designs
  • Present tender details to management as required
  • Ability to prioritise and schedule various tasks
  • Monitor and review bid and tendering process to ensure efficiency and accuracy
  • Up-to-date knowledge of all elements that affect major costing and changes
  • Generate new business and look to continually expand client base
  • Actively promote Martinus Rail and maintain existing client/supplier relationships by regularly liaising with clients and conducting follow-ups
  • Maintain client information confidentiality
  • Work alongside engineers and site staff to assist in efficient, quality delivery of jobs
  • Be available to liaise with our engineers and supplies for clarification/assistance
  • Ability to apply a working knowledge of the project planning and project delivery process in order to offer support and prioritise workload as required.
To be succesful:
Relevant tertiary education, Quantity Surveying or Engineering preferred
5+ years in a similar role across the infrastructure space
High level of competence in relevant rail estimator software
Commercially minded with sound relationship building ability
Accurate & punctual communicator
